OPEN SUBMISSIONS: Escape Pod & Dark Moon Digest

I want to give my fellow writers a heads up that Escape Pod and Dark Moon Digest are both open for short story submissions.

Below are their submission guidelines. However, this is just an overview. It is always wise to get your information directly from the publication’s websites and read what they have published in the past.

***While these publications seem legit, I cannot personally vouch for their validity or philosophies. I just noticed they were open and wanted to share.***

ESCAPE POD

DESCRIPTION: “Escape Pod is a science fiction market. We are fairly flexible on what counts as science (we’ll delve into superheroes or steampunk on occasion) and are interested in exploring the range of the genre. We want stories that center on science, technology, future projections, and/or alternate history, and how any or all of these things intersect with people.

“We publish our stories in text and audio, but audio is our primary format. Because our audience cannot easily reread or skim, we prefer stories of high clarity and tight pacing. Typographic novelties (e.g. footnotes) are difficult for us to publish.” – From Escape Pod’s website.

WORD LIMIT: 1,500-6,000 words (original fiction). 1,500-7,500 words (reprints)

PAY RATE: $0.08 / word (original fiction). $100.00 / story (reprint). They are a SFWA qualifying market for original fiction.

SIMULTANEOUS SUBMISSIONS: No

READING PERIOD: Closed during the summer. According to a separate website they will close June 1, 2020.

HOW TO SUBMIT: Through Moksha
