I want to give my fellow writers a heads up that Split Magazine and The Iowa Review are both open for submissions.
Below are their guidelines. However, this is just an overview. It is always wise to get your information directly from the publication’s websites and read what they have published in the past.

Split Magazine*
DESCRIPTION: “We’re a literary journal that’s totally bonkers-in-love with voice-driven writing, pop culture, and the kind of honesty that gets you right in the kidneys.

WORD LIMIT: Flash Fiction – Less than 1,000 words. Fiction – 1,000 to 3,000 words. Poetry – 1 poem / author. (See website for more word limit details involving interviews, reviews etc.)
PAY RATE: Web Issues – $50.00 / author for poems, memoirs, flash, fiction, and art. $25.00 / author for interviews and reviews for web issues. Print Issues $5.00/page, $20.00 minimum.
READING PERIOD: Free submissions end November 30.

Iowa Review*
DESCRIPTION: Celebrating its 50th year of continuous publication, The Iowa Review publishes the best short stories, poems, and essays being written today, often being pleased to introduce new writers. Once published in TIR, work has recently been selected for Best American Poetry, Best American Essays, Best American Non-required Reading, the Pushcart Prize, and the Robert J. WORD LIMIT: Prose – 25 Pages. Poetry – 8 Pages.
PAY RATE: $0.08 / word of prose ($100 minimum) – $1.50 / line of poetry ($40.00 minimum)
SIMULTANEOUS SUBMISSIONS: Yes! (As always, let them know immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere.)
READING PERIOD: November 30.
